Through the magic of BBC I-Player, I have just caught up with an excellent BBC documentary on how the Children Characters in the Fantasy Fiction we all love, have come about, and how this has changed over the years.

Think Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lion Witch and Wardrobe, through to Golden Compass and Harry Potter,

It is a full hour proramme, but I thought superb, with comments from many well known writers and critics, including Philip Pullman.

The Worlds of Fantasy: The Child Within- go here to watch. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0090blv

  1. Hi,
I just found this blog via google and I realized that you watched BBC’s The Child within. I am a student from Germany and I write my B. A. dissertation about Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. My Professor told me that he missed the programme but heard that it was about Barrie and Lewis. Could you tell me a little more about what it was about, maybe even where I can get the video from? Please!

    Thank you.
